Online Training Course
This course was developed as a concept project to showcase my instructional design and eLearning development skills. It demonstrates how I approach creating engaging and interactive learning experiences.
Focus Areas:
- Using instructional design principles like the ADDIE model.
- Developing multimedia-rich, learner-centered content.
- Creating accessible and visually appealing eLearning materials.
Audience
Workers in industrial, construction, or office settings. This course targets individuals in diverse workplaces who need foundational knowledge of safety practices.
Tools
Articulate Storyline 360, Canva. Scorm Cloud and pilot user sessions.
Responsibilities
Conducted a needs analysis to identify key workplace safety issues.
Developed an instructional strategy aligned with workplace hazards and emergency preparedness.
Created interactive eLearning modules, including quizzes, drag-and-drop activities, and real-world scenarios.
Designed visuals and animations to enhance comprehension and engagement.
Integrated multimedia elements like videos and audio for a dynamic learning experience.
The Problem
In many workplaces, employees face avoidable injuries and risks due to a lack of proper safety training. This concept project was designed to address a common issue: insufficient awareness of workplace hazards and inadequate preparation for emergencies.
Without proper safety knowledge, workers may be unable to:
• Identify and mitigate potential risks, such as chemical spills, equipment misuse, or tripping hazards.
• Understand how to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Act decisively in emergencies, leading to injuries or even fatalities.
For example:
• A manufacturing worker suffered chemical burns because they were unaware of proper PPE requirements.
• An office evacuation during a fire drill highlighted confusion, as employees did not know designated exit routes or the location of safety equipment.
These challenges revealed the need for accessible, engaging safety training that equips employees with practical knowledge to protect themselves and their colleagues.
The Solution
To address these challenges, I developed an interactive and practical eLearning course titled Workplace Safety Essentials. The course provided learners with the tools and knowledge to create safer workplaces.
Key elements of the solution included:
• Hazard Identification Modules: Interactive content to teach employees how to recognize physical, chemical, and ergonomic hazards in their environments.
• PPE: Clear explanations of the purpose and proper usage of safety equipment like gloves, goggles, and safety harnesses.
• Emergency Response Scenarios: Scenario-based learning activities that guided participants through responding to spills, fires, and other emergencies.
• Knowledge Checks: Engaging drag-and-drop activities and quizzes to reinforce safety concepts and assess learner understanding.
While no measurable outcomes are available (as this was a concept project), the course aimed to reduce workplace accidents, improve emergency response preparedness, and foster a culture of safety awareness.
Action Map
The Action Map outlines the framework for the Workplace Safety Essentials course, showcasing instructional design skills while aligning objectives, content, and strategies.
Key highlights include:
Objectives: Focus on recognizing hazards, using PPE, and emergency response.
Content: Three modules covering hazards, PPE use, and emergency procedures.
Audience: Entry-level employees, supervisors, and specialized teams.
Strategies: Scenario-based learning, interactive activities, and multimedia integration.
Goals: Reduce incidents, foster safety culture, and improve preparedness.
Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Canva, and other multimedia resources.
This map ensured clarity, engagement, and alignment with the project’s learning goals.
Text-based Storyboard
Using the action map as a guide, I created a text-based storyboard that connects course objectives to realistic workplace safety scenarios. The storyboard integrates situational prompts, learner decisions, and feedback to simulate real-world challenges and reinforce critical safety behaviors. By employing interactive storytelling techniques and aligning with Bloom’s Taxonomy, the storyboard ensures learners engage meaningfully with the content, improving their ability to recognize hazards, use PPE correctly, and respond effectively to emergencies.
Visual Mockups
